Everything about the Kalamata olive
The Kalamata olive variety
The dark Kalamata olives, also called Kalamon, originally come from the area around Kalamata in Messenia on the Greek Peloponnese peninsula.
The growing areas
Kalamata olives are considered the most popular olive variety worldwide. They are now cultivated in many areas of Europe and even in South America.
Only olives from the Messenia region may bear the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO / POD) Kalamata Olive.
Our Kalamata olives come from different regions in Greece.
The ripe Kalamata olive has a violet-dark brown, almost black color on the tree. After debittering in brine, the brown color predominates.
By the way:
Completely dark black olives do not naturally exist. Black olives are usually colored - easily recognizable by their black core. Uncolored olives have a light core.
We produce our own organic olive oil under the OEL brand and sell excellent and innovative organic olive products.
OEL wants you to be able to buy special Greek organic olive products of the highest quality at fair prices.
OEL sees itself as a direct bridge between producers and consumers, between Kalamata and Berlin.
At OEL we harvest intensively by hand. In doing so, we go beyond the requirements of the European organic label.
We carry out all land care and harvesting tasks by hand. Fighting weeds and weeds, cutting the trees, fertilizing the soil, painting the tree trunks with lime paint and harvesting the olives is all done by hand at OEL.Learn more
The olives for OEL grow on our own trees and those of selected organic farmers in Andania/Messenia/Greece.
All groves are harvested by hand. We actively participate in harvesting and production every year.Learn more
